Active Lifestyle Programme Leader

Job Purpose

To provide a wide range of exercise and active lifestyle related opportunities that positively contribute to delivering an outstanding customer experience that promotes UofG Sport as a core part of the student experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To manage and develop designated aspects of the Active Lifestyle programme (e.g. increasing engagement via digital platforms to enhance our member experience).

2. Contribute towards the evaluation and development of the service programme to ensure it meets and responds to the needs of its wide customer base, has strategic fit with UofG Sport objectives and optimises available resources.

3. Plan, prepare and deliver a wide range of specialist services within area of responsibility, including Wellbeing Programme, Group Exercise, Courses, Inductions, projects and events that promote the adoption of an active lifestyle.

4. Lead the timetabling of freelance specialists to ensure delivery of consistent, high-quality programme of activities within the Active Lifestyle area.

5. Lead on quality control of delivery across UofG sport, providing feedback and mentoring of instructors.

6. Prepare and present communication materials (e.g. articles, presentations, booklets, workshops) to help promote and develop an active lifestyle culture within the University and as an aid to supporting customer's knowledge and understanding.

7. Provide advice to customers based on in depth knowledge and experience of specialist active lifestyle areas.

8. Contribute to the strategic development of UofG Sport and ensure that the Active Lifestyle area maximises impact on recruitment, retention, external relations and service objectives.

9. Provide information to existing and prospective customers on the services provided by UofG Sport in a positive and professional manner.

10. Work effectively with others in UofG Sport, particularly in the areas of programme management and event coordination.

11. Establish, maintain and develop links with key internal and external departments and organisations that will add value and quality to the UofG Sport programme.

12. Play a key role in promoting UofG Sport internally and externally to the University. This includes involvement in open days and other University promotional events.

13. Manage the Active Lifestyle and Wellbeing partnership with Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA), supporting student involvement (maximising their learning experience) and providing an integrated service provision.

14. Ensure teaching standards and knowledge of new developments are kept up to date. This includes a commitment to maintaining excellent standards of delivery and high levels of continuing professional development.

15. Proactively engage and communicate with internal and external customers to provide an outstanding customer experience.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 8 (VQ4, HND) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role or; Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s).

A2 Strong portfolio of recognised qualifications in active lifestyle related areas. Examples of qualifications and awards include, Certificate in Personal Training, UKSCA ASCC, Yoga, Pilates, Group Exercise Level 2, Gym Instructor Level 2, Exercise Referral, Mental Health Awareness.

A3 Detailed practical knowledge of MS Office products, email and the internet.

Desirable:

B1 Good awareness of the UofG Sport programme and services offered, particularly in the Active Lifestyle area.

B2 Education and Training Qualifications (previously PTTLS).

B3 Exercise Referral.

B4 Mental Health First Aid.

Skills

Essential:

C1 Excellent teaching qualification portfolio and coaching skills.

C2 Ability to work under pressure and deal with queries effectively, in a timely and proactive manner.

C3 Strong, confident and adaptive communicator with excellent interpersonal skills adjusting style to suit different people or situations.

C4 Work effectively as part of a team, actively contributing to team morale.

C5 Work independently and under minimal supervision.

C6 Reliable with excellent time management skills.

C7 Ability to take initiative and innovate within the agreed dimensions and duties of the role.

C8 Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.

C9 Highly agile and able to adapt within the ever-evolving fitness landscape.

C10 Proven capacity to cope with a range of concurrent projects.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Relevant experience working with adults/groups in a health/fitness/wellbeing or performance sport environment with above qualifications or evidence of progression and development gained through significant work experience.

E2 Demonstrable experience in teaching a wide range of exercise and physical activity classes and/or experience in sports development.

E3 Proven ability to successfully operate within a multi-functional team and delivering against agreed targets.

Desirable:

F1 Experience of effectively communicating with HE students and staff.

F2 Experience of having worked in high performance sport/working with talented athletes.

F3 Demonstrable experience of devising, monitoring and reviewing high performance programmes.

F4 Competed or coached at international level.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £33,232 - £36,924 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
