  • About the position

    At La Trobe University, the Library is the heart of teaching and learning support. The Library Learning Services (LLS) team is comprised of specialists across five campus locations, dedicated to enhancing the learning experience and academic success of our students. Together, they offer a diverse range of learning and teaching support services within and alongside the curriculum of La Trobe's schools and disciplines.

    Our Academic Skills Advisors (ASA) are vital members of the Library Learning Services team. They collaborate with academics and specialists in a cross- campus, cross-functional team that includes librarians and English language advisors, to improve students' academic, digital, and information literacy abilities across all university study levels. They also collaborate with La Trobe's Peer Learning Advisors (PLAs), a team of students hired to provide peer support, in addition to their regular duties.

    Skills and Experience

    To be considered for this position, you will have

  • A postgraduate degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Competence in designing and producing effective and inclusive digital learning resources for a learning management system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively in small teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver learning support to students in at least one of the following areas: academic English, academic writing, mathematics, a STEM discipline, postgraduate/HDR research writing, or other relevant discipline/skill category.
  • Ability to collect and use data and feedback to make evidence-based decisions and implement ideas to improve local practices.
  • Desirable

  • A postgraduate qualification in Education, Applied Linguistics, TESOL or similar qualification.
  • At least two years of tertiary teaching or advising experience that includes students transitioning to study in academic English.
