Academic Lead for Athena Swan

Open only to internal academics, currently employed at Grade 9 or 10, within the Faculty of Social Sciences

Role Summary

Are you passionate about gender equality? Are you keen to develop your leadership skills, working across schools to deliver on the commitments to equity, diversity and inclusion as set out in our Faculty Vision and Strategy 2023-2030: Changing the world, for the good of all.

Athena Swan is a framework used internationally to support gender equality in higher education. We are looking to renew our Athena Swan award and track progress against our action plan. We are looking to appoint an Academic Lead to take this work forward and continue to promote gender equality across the Faculty.

The Academic Lead will be a senior member of the Faculty. Working with the Executive Dean, Faculty Executive Group, EDI Leads and Project Officer, the Academic Lead will provide leadership to drive forward the Athena Swan submission. This will involve helping to develop key relationships in areas such as student education, research and innovation, people and culture – and establishing and supporting working groups and monitoring progress. The Academic Lead will sit on the Faculty EDI Committee and provide updates on Athena Swan work.

This is a valuable developmental opportunity and would suit someone keen to progress into a senior leadership role within the Faculty or University. This post is open to academic staff Grades 9 – 10.
