In collaboration with the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU), Curtin University is pleased to invite applications as part of our Academic Casual Conversion Program (the Program) within the Curtin University Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (2022-2025).

About the Program This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering a supportive and dynamic academic community. The Program is designed to transition casual academics into ongoing roles, enhancing the stability and career progression opportunities for our valued sessional staff.

To be eligible to apply for this position under the program, applicants need to:

  • Have been engaged by Curtin as a casual academic in the last two years
  • Be a teaching academic with experience teaching at least two terms in the last two years within higher education in Australia
  • Applications that are eligible under the program will be assessed on merit. Only if the position cannot be filled with an eligible candidate, will Curtin consider other applicants.

    About The role: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, scholarship in learning and teaching, and engagement in the relevant academic disciplines. They will be expected to undertake undergraduate and post-graduate teaching with further opportunities for Executive Education teaching. As a passionate academic, they will also be provided with opportunities for leadership, and professional development. They will also be encouraged to work closely with industry partners in both teaching and scholarship of L&T.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver high-quality courses in relevant academic disciplines.
  • Develop course materials and assessment tasks that meet the needs of students and are aligned with the learning objectives of the respective programs.
  • Deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Provide academic guidance and support to students, including advising on career pathways and postgraduate study options.
  • Maintain an active research program, with a focus on Innovation and Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (iSoLT), securing internal funds through project submission.
  • Identify opportunities for iSoLT and engage with other stakeholders to understand and deliver iSoLT outcomes.

  • A doctoral qualification in relevant academic discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to develop innovative and high-quality course materials.
  • A strong track record of achievement in and commitment to excellence in delivering learning experiences across multiple modes and platforms.
  • A demonstrated capacity to undertake Innovation and Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (iSoLT)
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures, and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse community/industry backgrounds.
  • Willingness to take on leadership roles in Learning and Teaching.
