Associate Professorship in Bovine Medicine

The University seeks to appoint an associate professor within bovine medicine to the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Section of Medicine & Surgery to commence 1.7.2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is organized into five scientific sections and two University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals. The associate professor will be employed in the Section of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. The veterinary program provides research-based education, and the Large Animal University Hospital offers state-of-the-art facilities for research, clinical teaching, and clinical service. The section's main activities are applied clinical research within the fields of large animal diseases and welfare, as well as clinical and didactic teaching. The section also encompasses a mobile clinic and a clinical diagnostic laboratory, which provide services to the hospital, teaching and research activities.

This is a full-time academic position with most of the time spent in clinical research and didactic and clinical teaching.

The associate professor's duties will be related to research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within bovine medicine. In addition, research including obtaining research funding, as well as dissemination of research via publication/scientific communication is highly prioritised. The profile of the position includes special emphasis on ruminant diseases and welfare e.g. infectious diseases, metabolic diseases and calf diseases both at an individual and herd level. Duties also include research management pregraduate supervision of bachelor and veterinary thesis projects and of assistant professors and PhD-students. The associate professor is expected to take part in other duties, such as specialized diagnostics and treatment of patients and administrative tasks associated with teaching, education and research.

The associate professor's responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination and securing external funding
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments
  • Required qualifications

  • DVM with Danish authorization or immediate eligibility
  • PhD degree in large animal medicine or similar qualifications
  • Experience in clinical teaching and research expertise within large ruminant diseases
  • Specialized clinical experience with hospital management of ruminants and/or EBVS/ABVS board certifications

  • The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

    Terms of employment The position is a permanent position.

    The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

    Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
