These are among the questions which the new book Civil Society: Between Concepts and Empirical Grounds aims to answer.

The book is based on the perception that civil society are constantly changing through social, historical and political processes and comes into an entity to its relationship to the state and the marked.

And so, it explores the interconnected practices between these entities.

Using the Danish welfare state as an empirical ground, the authors cover how the civil society has been practiced and transformed over time, from the beginning in the 19th century and up to the present day.

The book is based on a project at the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy, CBS, which collaborate with the UiO:Nordic project, Nordic Civil Societies.

The volume can be purchased via Routledge's website, but is also available digitally on the Taylor & Francis Group website. It will be of great interest to scholars of sociology, politics, history and philosophy with interests in civil society.
