The Richard Wright Center at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Writing Center Director's position.

Minimum Required Education

A Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric or a closely related field is required.

Minimum Required Experience

  • Must have training or experience in writing pedagogy and writing center theory.

  • Must have three (3) or more years of teaching experience at the college or university level.

  • Must have an experience in working with or directing a writing/communication center.

  • Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications



    Preference will be given to candidates with experience training student writing tutors.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have a record of ongoing scholarly engagement in the field.

  • Must have a successful track record in teaching composition or writing in the disciplines.

  • Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve in a 12-month administrative position and teach a I/1 each academic year.

  • Promote the writing center and oversee outreach efforts to faculty across campus.

  • Responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising peer writing tutors.

  • Responsible for developing and assessing the Center's goals, objectives, and programming; maintaining the Center's schedules (staffing and tutorial); and managing the Center's budget in consultation with the Center's partners.

  • Responsible for reporting annually on the Center's statistics and data.

  • Responsible for working with the Coordinator of First Year Writing and the Writing Program Director and collaborating with writing faculty and faculty in Writing across the Curriculum and Writing in the Disciplines initiatives.

  • Maintain an active research agenda.
