Come join the Fighting Irish! The Storytelling and Engagement team in the Department of Development is seeking a professional writer who will bring their skills and creativity to the University of Notre Dame. This position entails researching and writing stories about Notre Dame students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends for Development fundraising proposals, scripts, newsletters, emails, storyboards, websites, and other mediums in various lengths and formats, which will help advance the mission of the University.

What you will do:

  • Storytelling (writing, fact-checking, editing, proofreading, scriptwriting, etc.) for a broad array of audiences via a wide variety of channels (print, web, video, environmental, etc.) as assigned.
  • Research to craft storytelling materials, such as proposals.
  • Teamwork — pitching in to assist others in the department, whether it be writing, planning, scheduling, project management, etc.
  • What you bring to the role:

  • Deep curiosity and interest in others
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and relevance in your writing
  • Ability to adapt to various styles and formats appropriate to individual projects and audiences
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly synthesize information and craft it into stories in an engaging way
  • A flexible schedule: Assignments will include occasional evening and weekend work, as well as off-campus events that may require travel.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (4 years)
  • 1 to 2 years of professional writing and editing experience with success in engaging a variety of audiences via a number of mediums, including print and digital
  • Well-developed written and oral communication
  • Comfortable communicating with Development colleagues and a wide variety of people, including senior leadership, deans, faculty, religious, students, alumni, friends of Notre Dame via email, in person, phone, etc.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrable familiarity with Notre Dame
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in a nonprofit environment
  • Professional experience in higher education or advertising/marketing agency
  • Familiarity with the Catholic Church and Catholic higher education
