The institute for transport planning and traffic engineering in the department of civil and environmental engineering at TU Darmstadt is looking for aResearch Assistant (all genders)
starting at November 1st, 2023 limited until 5 years.
The scAInce team is an interdisciplinary research group that brings together data analytics, engineering, social science, and intelligent technologies to shape resilient behavior, design sustainable systems, build resistant infrastructures, and improve urban and regional policies. The institute for transport planning and traffic engineering in the department of civil and environmental engineering conducts cutting-edge research and teaching on mobility and accessibility transformations for, despite, and against extreme events and disruptive technologies. Using advanced data analytics, we examine urban engineering and people's behavior on transport and traffic systems to enable carbon-neutral traffic and climate-resilient transport. Professor Eva Kassens-Noor leads the IVV research groups and manages two prestigious projects including an ERC Consolidator grant (scAInce) and a German federal ministry grant for research on the longest eHighway testtrack in the world.
You will have an amazing opportunity to join our highly-skilled team as a Research Assistant in an exceptional environment for wholistic scientific growth. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing novel Python text mining algorithms and validating their accuracy via global surveys in 400 cities worldwide. Under the guidance of Eva Kassens- Noor you will conduct excellent science in the cutting-edge research project “scAInce” related to how and why artificial intelligence can make cities more sustainable. Opportunities for further qualification (dissertation), publishing our work, supervising master students, integrating the latest research-knowledge into courses, and conducting administrative tasks ensuring the project runs smoothly will be given.
REQUIRED: Master's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, transport engineering, computer science, urban planning, geography, operations research, or a related field; solid command of (or willingness to learn) Python, R or knowledge of other analytics programs; good oral and written communication skills; research interests focused on smart cities and technology topics; ability to handle several different projects/tasks simultaneously, successfully complete assigned tasks, and meet deadlines; self-motivation; and willingness to learn.
DESIRED: experience working with large datasets; experience in survey methods, statistical analysis. Formal post-undergraduate professional experience is not required Job #R1
