The Geothermal Science and Technology group (Prof. Dr. Ingo Sass) invites
applications for the position of a
Research Assistant (all genders) – 75%
starting as soon as possible and initially limited until December July 31,
2025. This vacancy is part of the BMBF funded PotAMMO program.
The overall objective of the PotAMMO project is to determine the potential for
integrating Aquifer Thermal Storage Systems (ATES) into the heating grids of
Mannheim and Offenbach regions in the Upper Rhine Graben. Not only technical
aspects, but also economic and ecological evaluation criteria should be
included in the potential analysis and help to identify suitable ATES
locations for the most profitable but also cost-efficient integration. The
project aims to develop a methodology for identifying ATES potential that can
be transferred to various other regions.
Within the project, three researcher positions are planned. The first position
will work to generate 3D geology structural models of both regions. These
models then will be used by a second researcher for numerical modelling.
Finally, another researcher will work in the life cycle assessment direction.
The project is managed by Section 4.8, GFZ Potsdam.
We are looking here for a talented and motivated geologist to generate 3D
geology structural models for Offenbach and Mannheim regions. The position is
employed by TU Darmstadt and will be supervised by GFZ Potsdam, Section 4.8
Identification of potential aquifer storage sites
Detailed modelling of designated storage horizons from geophysical and
Publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Present results before scientific audience
Experience of geophysical and well data interpretation
Experience in sedimentary and fractured reservoir models (geological
modeling, basin modeling, DFN, structural)
Experience in mechanical modeling is a plus
High level of knowledge in structural and sedimentary geology,and of
University degree (Dipl. Univ./Master) in Applied Geology or Geophysics
or related fields
High proficiency in German and English.
Other desirable skills:
Experience and/or willingness to work in cooperative scientific teams
Skills in interdisciplinary, on-time, goal- and team-oriented work
Extended knowledge of the modelling of reservoir systems by
hydrogeological and geothermal characteristics
