The Theoretical Chemistry group in the Department of Chemistry is inviting
applications for a position as „Wiss. Mitarbeiterin“, i.e.
PhD candidate (all genders) – 50 %
available from the next possible starting date with a fixed-term contract of
initially three years.
The role includes contributions to research and teaching in the area
‘Theoretical Chemistry', especially the quantum chemical description of
transition metal complexes.
The position is advertised in the context of SPP 2101 ‘Light controlled
reactivity of metal complexes', which focuses on a basic understanding of
photoinduced metal-centered processes and the dynamics of electronically
excited states of metal complexes. The project investigates the light-driven
generation of metallonitrene complexes for nitrogen transfer photocatalysis.
The main objective is the quantum chemical description of the electronic
structure, spectroscopic properties and reactivity of transition metal
complexes in their electronic ground and excited states. While entirely
computational, the project will be carried out in close collaboration with
collaboration partners from synthesis and spectroscopy.
The candidate should have a university undergraduate degree in any discipline
of the natural sciences. Good knowledge of inorganic chemistry, the chemistry
of transition metals, homogeneous catalysis and/or photochemistry are
expected. Knowledge of a Linux computing environment will be beneficial. Basic
programming skills may be helpful but are not expected. All teaching duties
can be carried out in either English or German.
Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The
fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female
employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal
qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal
will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective
agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität
Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt).
For enquiries regarding this opening please contact Prof. Dr. Vera Krewald by

as a single PDF containing the usual documents (cover letter, CV, list of
publications, credentials or certificates, names of two referees, other
supporting documents) and quoting the reference number below by e-mail to
