Wiss. Mitarbeiter_in (w/m/d) für Computer Vision & Deep Learning

Darmstadt University of Technology

February 20, 2022

The Department of Computer Science at Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for two positions as

Research Assistant (Ph.D. Researcher) (all genders) for Computer

Vision & Deep Learning

in the newly founded data-Efficient Video Analysis (EVA) group, led by Dr. Simone Schaub-Meyer. The planned starting date is 01.04.2022. The initial funding duration for each of the positions is for three years.

The positions are being opened within the context of the cluster project “The Third Wave of Artificial Intelligence (3AI)” of hessian.AI (https: // hessian.ai/), in cooperation with the Visual Inference Lab (www. visinf.tu-darmstadt.de), led by Prof. Stefan Roth, Ph.D.

The data-Efficient Video Analysis (EVA) group is researching novel AI methods for visual data with a focus on developing efficient, robust and controllable methods and algorithms that can learn from less labels by exploiting low-level perception and high-level reasoning. EVA has been created as a DEPTH research group within the HMWK-funded cluster project "The Third Wave of Artificial Intelligence (3AI)". The cluster project is embedded into hessian.AI, the Hessian Centre for Artificial Intelligence, with its mission to “understand the interplay of AI algorithms, AI systems, and synergies between artificial and natural intelligence to provide the foundation for AI transformation”. The group will have access to a capture laboratory and state- of-the-art GPU facilities, including Nvidia DGX machines and the powerful Lichtenberg cluster, enabling outstanding research.

Your profile

  • Outstanding Masters degree (or equivalent) at a leading university in computer science, (applied) mathematics, electrical engineering, physics or a related discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer vision and/or machine learning is beneficial. More important, however, are outstanding mathematical and analytical skills, as well as programming experience.
  • High intrinsic motivation, reliability, creativity, as well as the ability to discuss, formulate, and present scientific results in English.
  • Significant potential for outstanding, independent research on challenging scientific problems as well as the ability for teamwork.
  • Candidates are expected to contribute to the research, teaching, and administrative tasks of the group.

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.

Your application should contain a cover letter, curriculum vitae, as well as diplomas and transcripts (Master, Bachelor, as well as high school). Your cover letter should discuss your motivation and qualification for the position. Please ensure to include your date of availability for starting the Ph.D. position. Moreover, please name at least two references, who would be willing to supply letters of recommendation. Please send electronic applications (in the form of a single PDF), referencing the code no., to Dr. Simone Schaub-Meyer. (email: simone.schaub@visinf.tu-darmstadt.de).
