At the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Department of Physics at Technische
Universität (TU) Darmstadt a position of
Research Scientist (Postdoc)
is open in the group of Prof. Aumann in the framework of the Collaborative
Research Center CRC 1245. The position can filled immediately and is limited
until Dec. 31, 2023.
At the Institute for Nuclear Physics there are 15 research groups with about
280 members, who work on the subjects of theoretical and experimental nuclear
structure physics, nuclear astrophysics, as well as laser and plasma physics.
The institute is one of the largest of its kind and has a high international
reputation. The Collaborative Research Center CRC 1245 “Nuclei: From
Fundamental Interactions to Structure and Stars” of the German DFG, which was
initiated on Jan. 1st, 2016, is a central part of the institute.
The candidate will work on subjects related to the CRC 1245, in particular on
the planning, preparation, execution and analysis of basic research
experiments involving electron and photon beams at the photon tagger NEPTUN of
the superconducting electron accelerator S-DALINAC. The work will focus on the
accurate determination of the dipole strength in atomic nuclei and the
extraction of the dipole polarizability.
The candidate will also support teaching in general and the supervision of
M.Sc. and B.Sc. students in the involved research groups. Furthermore, the
research results should be prepared and presented in international research
journals and at international conferences.
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. degree in the field of experimental
nuclear structure physics. Furthermore some experience with experiments
involving accelerator facilities is beneficial. In addition the candidate
should be familiar with the simulation and modeling of the the experimental
The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications
of the candidate.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female
employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal
qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal
