The West Cambridge Sharing Project (WCSP) is delivering an ongoing program of improvements to the University of Cambridge's operational infrastructure to enable wider access to shareable equipment on the West Cambridge campus. Recently, Phase II funding has been granted to expand activities within West Cambridge and the wider University.
A key Phase I improvement has been the delivery of a bespoke adaptation of Stratocore's PPMS equipment booking & billing platform that is fully integrated with the University's finance system. This improved version of PPMS has been developed and deployed by the WCSP Technical Manager. Due to the expansion of the project in Phase II, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Coordinator to assist the WCSP Technical Manager with regular technical operational support for the West Cambridge instance of PPMS, maintaining its crucial financial, user and operator databases.
The Technical Coordinator will also play a critical role in the expansion and deployment of the PPMS software in new facilities across the West Cambridge campus and beyond, supporting the Technical Manager to achieve a smoothly running platform and end-user satisfaction. Once fully trained, the Technical Coordinator will be expected to independently on-board additional facilities in participating departments. Where needed, they will provide ongoing technical support to facility managers, finance administrators and other stakeholders on how to use and set up the platform for bookings, invoicing and facility reporting.
Lastly, whilst working with stakeholders, the Technical Coordinator will help identify areas for process improvement/PPMS functionality and support the development and deployment of additional software tools related to WCSP operations (e.g. training online assessment tool, email tools and active user CRSID checks).
As the role entails substantial interaction with end-users, it is expected that the successful applicant will have experience working with a technical software platform and/or with technical helpdesk IT/Finance, in a customer- facing support role. The Technical Coordinator must have strong interpersonal skills, ability to shape communications to the user's level, and experience of working with all levels of users/staff both in knowledge and seniority. Furthermore, an understanding of HEI accounts structures (e.g. Grant, tasks, expenditure types, and General Ledger Cost Centres) is important for routine maintenance of the database to a high level of accuracy, therefore familiarity with UK HEI finance workflows is highly desirable. Furthermore, the Technical Coordinator must possess strong analytical skills relating to risk around changes to the databases and subsequent processes/workflows, and troubleshooting skills to understand issues that may occur relating to issues/errors in the software or processes, understanding the cause, providing support to users, or providing an error reports to Stratocore to resolve where required.
Funding for the Technical Coordinator role is for 2 years in the first instance (until Dec '25).
Interviews are expected to be held in early December 2023.
