Position Details
The Office of Communications shines a spotlight on the people and programs of Wesleyan University to enhance its reputation as a leader in liberal education. In so doing, it serves as a partner with units across campus, providing expertise in brand management, strategic communication, media relations, digital and social media strategy, website development, content training and strategy, print and online publications and videography and photography.
This role is one of three positions in the Web Communications team within Digital Marketing and Communications. Reporting to the Manager of Web Communications, the Web Content Strategist/Writer is tasked with developing and implementing the overarching integrated web content strategy, collaborating with partners and subject matter experts throughout the university and finding solutions for optimized outreach and content dissemination. They write engaging content for the website based on university goals and high search volume topics.
This hands-on position works with our campus partners to develop, educate and provide guidelines for web best practices, create new web content and revise existing pages ensuring all content adheres to the defined web content strategy ensuring all information conforms to Wesleyan's unique personality and is uniformly reflected throughout our entire web presence.
As we move to overhaul the Wesleyan.edu website and create a comprehensive web presence, the Web Writer and Content Strategist will understand and evaluate audience needs, create personas, develop and optimize our search engine results, and write content for web-based consumption.
Responsibilities include:
This position is an on-campus position with the potential for a hybrid (on campus and remote) schedule after working two full semesters on campus. Positions will require frequent on campus meetings.
Hybrid work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in strategic or consultative content writing for the web.
Bachelor's degree, in Communications, English, Marketing, or similar discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience setting content strategy and best practices for web layout and searchability /discoverability.
Demonstrated collaborative, writing, editing, and proofing skills.
Expertise in applying search engine optimization (SEO) strategy to web content writing.
Familiarity with accessibility best practices on mobile devices and desktop platforms.
Experience working with web content management systems.
Demonstrated ability to work with subject matter experts and team members in a collaborative model.
Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail-oriented, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment where very simple projects run side-by-side with highly complex projects.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to work with diverse audiences.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
