An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Administrator on ward G3 at Southampton Children's Hospital part of University Hospital Southampton (UHS)

This role is pivotal in providing administrative support to the ward team and patients.

You will need a good understanding of administration tasks along with efficient IT and organisational skills, you will need effective time management, be self-motivated, and have excellent attention to detail.

As part of this role you will be required to interact with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary staff so you will need exceptional interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work in a fast paced and busy shared environment. G3 is a 20 bedded unit including 2 HDU beds and caters for children and young people from birth to 18 years of age requiring orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation, including specialist spinal surgery and major trauma patients.

Southampton Children's hospital is a 115 bedded hospital catering for both local and regional children from the Wessex Region including the Channel Isles. Southampton's Children's Hospital is a Major Paediatric Trauma Centre in the region.

The children's hospital provides specialist intensive and high dependency care, regional cardiac, neurological and neurosurgery, regional orthopaedic, urology, general, renal and ear nose and throat surgery and is the regional oncology centre. The children hospital has a dedicated children's emergency department, day surgical / medical unit, children's outpatients and Bursledon House which is a specialist unit treating a range of conditions. Southampton Children's Hospital is a centre for paediatric research projects.

Within the site also sits our tertiary level 3 medical and surgical neonatal unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Your Responsibilities What you'll do

Key elements of the role are:

  • Provide admin support to the ward.
  • Maintain a real-time bed state by updating in-house systems with all patient movements routinely throughout your shift.
  • Support patient flow by updating all Trust systems & efficiently booking transport as requested
  • Relieve Clinical staff of general administrative procedures where appropriate
  • Act as receptionist to patients and visitors and answer the phones
  • Manage patients notes during admission and following discharge
  • What we're looking for

The successful candidate will have a professional, caring, and courteous manner, a high standard of attention to detail, computer skills and a thorough understanding of good customer service.

    The successful candidate will enjoy working as part of a varied multidisciplinary team and meeting new people as well as being confident to work unsupervised and using their initiative within role remit.

    General IT knowledge and ability to be proficient using multiple in-house IT systems following training are essential, you will also need to be proficient with Microsoft packages, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel.

    If you can manage your workload in an organised, proactive and effective manner, you are reliable, self-motivated, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a flexible approach to work, excellent attention to detail and can work within a fast-paced environment then we would like to talk to you about joining our team.
