Description

Ulm University is a young research university with a focus on natural sciences, medicine and technology. Located in an economically strong region, the University with its more than 10,000 students offers a dynamic work environment with attractive networking and development prospects.

The Medical Faculty of Ulm University, Department of General and Visceral

Surgery (Head: Professor Dr. Christoph Michalski) invites applications for a position fo a

W1/W3-Tenure-Track-Professor for Computational Translational Oncology

(m/f/d)

The University is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and particularly encourages qualified female scientists to apply for this position. Severely disabled applicants with equal aptitude will be given preferential consideration.

The professorship is to strengthen and expand the research focus in visceral medicine and visceral oncology in close cooperation with the Clinic for Internal Medicine I (Medical Director Prof. Dr. Thomas Seufferlein) and the Institute for Medical Systems Biology (Director Prof. Dr. Hans Kestler).

The focus of research will generally be on analysis and evaluation of multidimensional, longitudinal data ("Multi-Omics Data Integration") and specifically on single cell analyses in various biological models of pancreatic carcinoma and other solid visceral tumours and different cell compartments. Comparisons with single cells from human material should allow translation to develop early surgical oncology studies for prognosis prediction. In addition to integrating complex data sets across subject collectives, more accurate, cell type-specific prediction models for surgical oncology diseases will be developed. The professorship is located at the interface between basic research and clinical research and, due to its location in visceral oncology, is central to research projects of the clinics for general and visceral surgery, internal medicine I, nuclear medicine, radiology and radio-therapy; in addition, a connection to the Institute for Medical Systems Biology is planned, both in research and teaching.

Close cooperation with the clinical study centres of the Clinics for General and Visceral Surgery, as well as the Clinic for Internal Medicine I, is expected. The "wet lab" and translational research components of the professorship are located in the laboratories of these clinics.

We expect a significant interest in clinical and translational issues in the field of visceral medicine and visceral oncology, as well as participation in current and planned research networks, in projects of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm (CCCU) and the establishment of an interdisciplinary working group.

In addition to research work, participation in academic self-administration and student teaching is expected.

The position is a temporary civil servant or an employee, usually for a limited period of 6 years.

If the evaluation is positive, appointment to a tenured W3 professorship will be offered. Requirements for a later transition to a W3 professorship are defined in the Ulm University Statute on Quality Assurance in Appointing and Evaluating Tenure-Track Professors of 21 November 2018 (www. uni- ulm.de//Satzungeng21112018Tenure-Track) and the subject-specific prerequisites for this professorship (www. uni-ulm.de/evaluation-criteria- ProfessurComputationalTranslationalOncology).

In addition to the general requirements under civil service law, recruitment requirements include a completed university degree with a special focus on bioinformatics issues, in the field of bioinformatics, biotechnology, computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering or engineering sciences, pedagogical aptitude, special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate (§51 II LHG).

Seize the opportunity and join us in shaping the future of the University!
