The Child Development Adjunct Faculty member is an instructional position directly responsible to the Child Development Program Manager and Director of Academic Programs. The overall duties and responsibilities of the position are to accomplish the vocational-technical program goals in conjunction with the instructor's expert knowledge, skills, and abilities. The Adjunct Faculty member is to plan, organize, teach, and provide feedback to promote and direct student learning.

Minimum Required Education

Bachelor's Degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education required to teach CDEC courses, with specific coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Education as appropriate.

Master's degree in related field preferred.

Minimum Required Experience

Minimum of two years' wage-earning work experience with the early childhood / child development demographic, in a non-academic setting, and specifically related to the learning outcomes of each course cleared to teach.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of course-specific learning outcomes and objectives Provide instruction, which meets the needs of the students and the standards of appropriate accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to implement curriculum and utilize diverse teaching and learning strategies focused on diverse student learning styles.
  • Ability to and practice of self-examination on the effectiveness of teaching, counseling, and assessment strategies.
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop and commit to use of emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately, including hybrid course options, content software, etc.
  • Skill in the use of a computer device, email functions and general office software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally (in group and one-on- one settings), orally, and in writing.
  • Proficiency in the use of current technology and basic computer operations skills to include using and managing Microsoft Office tools and files, PDF files, Internet navigation and research, email accounts, online publisher accounts for instructor resources, shared drives, electronic forms, and scanning systems.
  • Has ability to work independently and proactively without direct supervision; can problem-solve, has attention to details; can properly handle sensitive student issues and Personally Identifiable Information (PII); and possesses excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Possesses initiative and ownership of role and responsibilities given; has ability to plan and identify strategies to deliver class, set goals, create, and implement action plans; and evaluate processes and results.
  • Availability to instruct courses during lunch, in the evenings, and/or on weekend hours as determined by local site's students' needs.
