The Department of Economics belongs to the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg and the department has around 100 employees from several countries. The teaching within the department is economics and statistics and the department has around 800 students registered at courses and programs. A diversity of researchers is located at the department where several of them are internationally well-known economists. The research conducted is within a broad range of areas, including labor, environmental, development, behavioral, and financial economics. The department is now looking for two to four visitng lecturers for teaching and supervision.
Job assignmentsThe assignments as visiting lecturer mainly includes supervision at Bachelor and Master level in Financial Economics. Teaching at introductory and advanced level in Financial Economics may also be included within the assignments. The teaching and supervision are primarily done in English, but some teaching is done in Swedish at the introductory level.
Administrative tasks are also included, such as grading of exams and scheduling of courses. In addition to the courses mentioned above there may be some other course that the department needs to staff with guest lecturers during the year.
QualificationsThe employment should strengthen the interaction between research and teaching and contribute to increased internationalization. The employment is therefore aimed at persons who are active researchers within the area of economics and especially within the area of Financial Economics. Own research relevant to the teaching and international experiences are important qualifications. A requirement for the employment as visiting lecturer is a PhD in Economics or equivalent. You should have previous experience of teaching in economics at Bachelor- and/or Master level, especially supervision, and show good pedagogical skills to be able to communicate with the department´s students in a pedagogical way. Good communication skills in speech and writing in English and possibly Swedish (depending on the course language) is a requirement.
Personal suitability is of great importance for the appointment. Ability to cooperate and to work independently as well as in teams are important qualifications.
An overall assessment of the applicant will be done based on the requirements described above.
EmploymentThe department intends to employ 2-4 visiting lectures where the form of employment is intermittent employment. Working hours during the year can vary between approximately 50–350 hours. The work primarily concerns the first half of 2024, but some work may also be done in the autumn of 2024 if a need arises.
Placement until further notice is at the Department of Economics. Starting date: January 2024 or by agreement.
OtherThe employment is a fixed-term intermittent employment where you work by the hour as needed. With an intermittent employment, you are called in and choose to accept the offered work, which then constitutes a new employment relationship on each individual occasion.
