Houston Baptist University seeks a Visiting Lecturer in Theology for the School of Christian Thought, to teach three classes per semester and to assist the Dean and leadership team of the School of Christian Thought in a variety of initiatives that will support the mission of the SCT. This position is for a classroom instructor who will also live on campus and serve as a part of the Residence Life Team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach a total of three courses per semester.

  • Assist the theology department with administrative tasks as assigned.

  • Work with Residence Life staff, Spiritual Life staff, campus ministries, and local churches to provide monthly opportunities for spiritual growth and discipleship outside the classroom.

  • Provide a warm and pastoral presence to students and participate in Residence Life meetings and activities.

  • Provide informal pastoral counseling and refer students to University resources that can assist them.

  • Follow all Residence Life guidelines and submit reports to Residence Life as requested.

  • Assist Residence Life in upholding community standards.

  • Assume on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.

  • Perform other duties as needed

  • Candidates should be available to begin work in August of 2022. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. This appointment is considered a one-year fellowship but might possibly be renewed in special circumstances. In addition to the University's standard salary and benefits, this position also provides a semi-furnished apartment on campus and a meal plan.


    Candidates should hold a master's degree in Biblical Studies, Theology (or related discipline) by the time of appointment. The desired candidate should be prepared to teach introductory classes in biblical studies and theology, residentially or online. They should also possess the capacity and desire for relational ministry to college students.
