Position Summary

The School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory. We seek a dynamic colleague committed to working with students from diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds. The ideal candidate will join a progressive faculty as we adapt our curriculae to reflect current music and cultures. The candidate will be a skilled and successful teacher of undergraduate and graduate students and will fulfill duties and responsibilities commensurate with an academic position at a leading institution. The candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate music theory and aural skills curriculum with additional offerings of topics that may cover global popular music, non-western harmony, and feminist music theory. The candidate may possibly teach graduate-level music theory courses as well. As a member of the School of Music faculty, the Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory will contribute to ongoing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives in the School.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Music degree
  • Experience teaching music theory
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a team member at UNCG.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Music Theory or equivalent professional experience
  • Progressive viewpoint on teaching music theory in the 21st century
