Title Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry/Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU South Bend Clinical Lab Sciences Position Summary

Indiana University South Bend invites applications for a visiting professorship for the 2021 academic year. The position will be housed in either the Department of Chemistry or Clinical Laboratory Sciences depending on the strengths and interests of the candidate, but the position will serve both departments.

The primary responsibility of the position is to teach undergraduate courses. For the department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences these courses would likely cover clinical molecular diagnostics, diagnostic methods and clinical chemistry. For the Department of Chemistry, these courses would likely cover general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry primarily at the freshman level.

Instruction is expected to be primarily in-person, however hybrid and online classes may also be taught. IU South Bend is the third largest campus in the Indiana University system and serves the north central Indiana community.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related clinical health/education field. A Ph.D./doctoral degree is preferred.

  • Clinical experience. Certification is preferred, such as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Specialist (molecular diagnostics/clinical chemistry; ASCP or equivalent)

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Evidence of teaching ability and/or potential
