Position Title Visiting Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences

The School of Math, Science & Engineering (SMSE) at the University of the
Incarnate Word (UIW) seeks applicants for a one-year visiting assistant
professor / lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences. UIW is a primarily undergraduate
institution that values both teaching and research. This is a visiting non-
tenure track, full-time, 1 year position. Salary is competitive and includes
The One-Year Visiting Assistant Professor / Lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences
will be responsible for teaching Meteorology and possible Geology classes, and
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal
regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual
Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the
employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive
information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledgeable about pedagogy and teaching techniques for teaching first-time
in the family college students and students from underserved populations.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and

PhD or Master of Science in atmospheric science, meteorology, or a closely
Required Work Experience
Candidates must have at least one year of experience teaching undergraduates,
which may be a composite of teaching assistantships, part time teaching, and
full time teaching.
Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to
teaching a diverse population of students at the undergraduate level, using
computers and advanced technology to enhance the educational experience.
Experience teaching online.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold an active AMS Certified
Consulting Meteorologists or an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist
Preference will be given to candidates who are able to prepare a weather
forecasts and presentations using WSI Weather Pro software.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
This is a 10 month appointment. The successful candidate will start teaching
responsibilities in the Fall 2021 academic year.
