Position Summary

The School of Math, Science & Engineering (SMSE) at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) seeks applicants for a one-year visiting assistant professor / lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences. UIW is a primarily undergraduate institution that values both teaching and research. This is a visiting non- tenure track, full-time, 1 year position. Salary is competitive and includes full benefits. The One-Year Visiting Assistant Professor / Lecturer in Atmospheric Sciences will be responsible for teaching Meteorology and possible Geology classes, and advising students.

This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions

Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at UIW include teaching, advising students, scholarship, service, and professional activities.

In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledgeable about pedagogy and teaching techniques for teaching first-time in the family college students and students from underserved populations.

Must have excellent communication and strong personal skills, as well as ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Ability to teach remotely if needed.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education

PhD or Master of Science in atmospheric science, meteorology, or a closely related field.

Required Work Experience

Candidates must have at least one year of experience teaching undergraduates, which may be a composite of teaching assistantships, part time teaching, and full time teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to teaching a diverse population of students at the undergraduate level, using computers and advanced technology to enhance the educational experience.

Experience teaching online.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold an active AMS Certified Consulting Meteorologists or an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist certificate.

Preference will be given to candidates who are able to prepare a weather forecasts and presentations using WSI Weather Pro software.

Work Hours

This is a 10 month appointment. The successful candidate will start teaching responsibilities in the Fall 2021 academic year.
