The 900+ positions of the Facilities Services service the students and staff of the University's teaching, research/administrative space and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Services provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.

The Grounds and Fleet Services Unit provides campus wide programs and services and support to the University. These programs and services include landscape construction and maintenance, comprehensive waste and recycling programs and services and management of the University's auto shop and motor fleet. Revenue supported programs and services are provided to Transportation, Housing, Dining, Athletics, Campus Recreation and individual colleges and departments.

Essential Job Duties

This position will prepare rental vehicles for motor pool customers and university owned vehicles and equipment. Conduct light vehicle maintenance and provide assistance to the motor pool and fuel island customers on a daily basis. Ensure each vehicle is cleaned inside and out; all fluids are at the manufacturer's specified levels and all tire pressures (including spare) are correct.

Perform minor Preventative Maintenance replacing light bulbs and windshield wipers, filling out vehicle preparation checklist for each vehicle cleaned. Will keep wash bay clean and organized, maintaining an inventory of car cleaning supplies and keeping supply cabinets organized. Maintaining water reclaim system for our car wash. Conducting monthly inspections of car wash and fuel island. Driving vehicles to/from the Motor Pool area. Driving 15 passenger vans for customers when needed. Must have a valid Class C DL, CDL preferred

Other Responsibilities

  • Position will require superior attention to detail in performing light maintenance and cleaning (interior/exterior) of various types of cars, vans, trucks, and equipment in our Motor Pool fleet.
  • Inspect the vehicles for damage, equipment problems or failure and inform Supervisor and/or bus dispatcher.
  • Drive and park vehicles on lot as needed.
  • Fill gasoline tank and check fill levels of all fluids.
  • Drive 15-passenger van as needed.
  • Able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Experience/Education

    Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

    Requires appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.

    Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
  • Experience driving multiple types of vehicles and vans.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • One to two years' experience driving multiple types of vehicles, and vans.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on vehicles.
  • Commercial Driver's License – Preferred
  • Required License or Certification
