    At the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry at the Faculty of Technical Chemistry of TU Wien (with strong intra- and interfaculty bridging), the position of a University Professor for the specialist field of applied radiochemistry with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is to be filled as of April 1, 202 2.

    This professorship is regulated by § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG).

    The professorship for Applied Radiochemistry is assigned to the research area "Materials and Matter" in the research agenda of TU Wien and, depending on the research profile of the appointed person, may also cover other research areas, e.g. "Energy and Environment". Thereby, the research fields "Materials Characterization," "Non-metallic Materials," "Biological and Bioactive Materials," and/or "Structure-Property-Relationship" shall be strengthened. The advertised professorship shall connect the research areas mentioned closer to the Center for Labelling and Isotope Production (CLIP; a sub-unit of TRIGA Center Atominstitut) of TU Wien. The person to be appointed shall bridge research activities of the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry, CLIP, TRIGA Center Atominstitut including the 250 kW TRIGA research nuclear reactor, as well as the research foci in nuclear sciences at the Faculty of Physics by dual affiliation with the TRIGA Center Atominstitut. Alternatively or additionally, a professional connection to the MedAustron accelerator center is also possible and desired. For this purpose, a candidate with an outstanding academic profile and relevant international experience is expected capable to exercise this bridging function. We are searching for a person stimulating the research and teaching portfolio at the Faculty of Technical Chemistry in the field of radiochemistry with new activities, while simultaneously seeking interdisciplinary cooperation with existing research activities at TU Wien. Special emphasis will be put on international cooperation with universities, research institutions, national and international authorities and, if applicable, industrial partners.

    The appointed person is expected to utilize the research reactor in analytical and synthetic chemical research. With the appointment, the current research portfolio shall be expanded, supported by instrumentation additions.

    In addition to research, the duties of a university professor at TU Wien include teaching (in German and English) in Bachelor, Master, and PhD programs as well as participation in the management of the institute and the faculty, as well as in university committees. The appointed professor will cover a wide range of applied aspects of radiochemistry in the offered courses. In view of the socio-political importance of the subject area of radioactivity/nuclear technology, the person to be appointed is expected to actively contribute to the Third Mission of TU Wien based on experience and motivation.

    The Faculty for Technical Chemistry (one out of 8 faculties at TU Wien) represents an active player in the national and international research arena with excellent reputation. Research foci include chemistry and technology of materials, sustainability, energy and environment and biochemical technologies / life sciences.

  • A doctoral degree or PhD in chemistry or another relevant discipline from a domestic or equivalent foreign university or research institution
  • A teaching qualification (venia docendi) acquired at a domestic or equivalent foreign university or a scientific qualification equivalent to a teaching qualification as a university lecturer
  • Profound experience in the development and completion of interdisciplinary projects
  • An outstanding research and publication record
  • An outstanding reputation and active integration into the international scientific community
  • Experience in scientific outreach and dissemination in context with the Third Mission agenda of TU Wien
  • Experience in dealing with national and international authorities in radiation context and, with respect to the research reactor fuel supply, ideally links to U.S. research institutions
