Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Unit Computing Specialist for the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Provides end-user support for all Faculty and Staff working at an entry level under the supervision of the Unit Computing Manager.
  • Provides level 1 Help Desk support for troubleshooting software, as well as hardware including desktop, laptop, and tablets & workstations for both on and off-site locations.
  • Basic network device and user account provisioning utilizing both in- house, as well as OIT-provided tools and utilities.
  • Effectively troubleshoot common audio visual (AV) products within class and conference rooms as well.
  • Backup when UCM is out of the office.
  • Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement

    Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.     Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires working knowledge of desktop software and operating systems currently in use with a combination of two years education/experience.
  • Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • This position requires a person to be able to think fast and creatively on their feet and solve non-textbook issues at times.
  • Administrative, organizational skills/experience and the ability to work on multiple tasks at once is critical.
  • Abilitiy to communicate directly and swiftly to provide support and information for colleagues and end-users.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of Help Desk or other – like experience.
  • Experience with, or certifications for Microsoft Office, or CompTIA A+ or other-like certification is preferred.
  • Equipment Utilized

  • Must have some working knowledge of: TCP/IP, Routers, Hubs, and Switches; Apple OS X 10.12 and later, Apple desktops and notebooks, Windows 10 & 11.
  • Windows server 2012/R2 and later, Remote desktop MSTSC, Active Directory, Windows Domains, WDS, DHCP, DNS, WordPress, and any systems that may become available that would be usable at the School.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs; Many projects included the building, and moving of various types of PCs and peripherals.
