Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Technician I for the New Jersey State Prison, located in Trenton, New Jersey.

The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the Prison. Provides direct and indirect patient care to inmates under the direction of a Physician, Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician Assistant, or a Registered Nurse.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Takes vital signs, height and weight and documents in EMR.
  • Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures as needed, including preparing the inmate for the
  • examination.
  • Obtains specimen collection and handling, including but not limited to drawing blood and collecting and testing dipstick urine samples.
  • Performs EKG and document completion within the EMR Training requirements.
  • Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the charge nurse in a timely manner.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program (or related skills technician program) or EMT certification or CNA certification or formal training and/or on the job experience in phlebotomy.
  • At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill and abilities and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Certifications/Licenses

  • Subject to State Regulations regarding certification and/or licensure.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer literacy.
  • Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

    As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

    Special Conditions

    Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.

    Immunization Requirements

    Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
