Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Staff Nurse Mental Health for the New Jersey State Prison, located in Trenton, New Jersey.

The UCHC Staff Nurse Mental Health demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the psychological and physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths and also identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Collects and assesses continuous clinical data that is comprehensive, accurate and systematic as a basis for decisions regarding nursing practices.
  • Actively participates in the inmate's multi-disciplinary planning sessions as measured by nursing statement, signature on the team treatment plan form, and supervisory review.
  • Uses knowledge of behavioral concepts such as anxiety, loss, grief and anger to assist the inmate in coping, adapting and dealing constructively with feelings.
  • Participates in in-service meetings and educational programs either as attendee or as a teacher, as arranged and approved by supervisor

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Minimum of one (1) year of psychiatric nursing experience.
  • Certifications/Licenses

  • License to practice in the State of New Jersey
  • CPR Certification
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer literacy
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent preferred.
  • Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

    As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

    Immunization Requirements

    Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
