Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Per-Diem Physician Specialist for the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) Facility located in Bordentown, New Jersey. The Physician Specialist is responsible for providing medical services to the residents of the Juvenile Justice Commission, that is consistent with the community standards of care.

Among the key duties of this position are the following: Reports to the assigned Secure Care Program and community Residential Home at designated hours to examine referred patients. Provides emergency, routine medical care, preventive medical care, and education to patients. Assures implementation and ongoing status of on-site chronic clinics. Prescribes medications from the formulary for resident's healthcare needs. Provides services in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control infection guidelines, Federal, State and local laws and the Quality Improvement Program standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Experienced in a primary care specialty.

Certifications/Licenses

Licensed physician in the State of New Jersey. Current DEA registration, CDS and CPR certifications. Must be Board Certified and qualified by the state laws/regulations to practice medicine. Valid Driver's License is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Juvenile Justice Commission in shared office environments. Ability to type and use a computer to enter in the Electronic Medical Records. The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position. The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, and your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, Can quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions. Frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls. Intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities. Manual dexterity and mobility for charting (typing). Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to function in a fast paced environment and relate well to the patients, security staff and health care team members. Ability to work in a secure environment with adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening and assaultive behaviors. Ability to handle emergency and crisis situations. Incumbent must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Risk of body fluid exposure. Must be able to maneuver around architectural barriers and obstructions found in a prison environment. Could be exposed to fumes, toxics, outdoor weather conditions and vibrations and moving mechanical parts. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.

Special Conditions

Must possess own vehicle or alternate means of transportation from one site to another. Must be approved by the Juvenile Justice Commission and adhere to all JJC requirements.

Immunization Requirements
