Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) has opening for a Mental Health Clinician II for Northern State Prison, located in Newark, NJ.

The Mental Health Clinician II completes specialized psychological testing and assessment of clinical needs of adult inmates sentenced to the Department of Corrections.

Among the key duties for this position are the following:

  • Arrives at DSM IV multi-axial diagnoses with precision and accuracy by the end of the evaluation sessions.
  • Makes clinically based decisions regarding appropriateness for treatment, as well as preferred treatment modality.
  • Provides psychological testing and evaluations of referred adult inmates ages 18 and up.
  • Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision as assigned to staff and trainees.
  • Collects, maintains and provides management information and data as required by the supervisor.
  • Shows leadership and initiative in support of the overall UCHC mission

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Psychology or directly related mental health discipline, trained in psychological testing and measurement plus two (2) years post master's experience in mental health field or Doctorate in Psychology.
  • Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensure in mental health field (e.g.: Licensed Associate Counselor LAC, Licensed Professional Counselor LPC, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor LCADC is preferred
  • Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

    Ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments. Extended sitting and/or standing are required. Ability to move from unit to unit within residential facilities requiring walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls. Lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.

    Immunization Requirements

    Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
