About the VCE Theatre The VCA Theatre program has a significant international reputation and has long established a dynamic presence as forward-looking with a clear mission to prepare artists with a lifelong commitment as professional practitioners, to be positive contributors to the profession and the broader community .

About the Role The Tutor in Theatre is responsible for assisting in the development and delivery of a conservatoire based curriculum encompassing voice and movement development, acting for stage and screen, directing, writing, dramaturgy and theatre making. The appointee will be a respected professional, possibly in the early stages of an academic career, as well as a discipline advocate with the vision and capacity to contribute to teaching, learning and research within VCA Theatre. Knowledge of Australasian traditions in stage and screen, reinforced by forward thinking contemporary training practices are essential characteristics of the appointee. The successful candidate is expected to promote artistic research and teaching partnerships and collaboration within the Faculty, University and external organisations at state and national levels. The incumbent will contribute to teaching excellence within VCA Theatre at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, and maintain involvement in the development and delivery of a high-quality teaching program.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Preparation and delivery of lectures, workshops and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate coursework level
  • Contribute to the artistic research programs of the VCA and be actively involved in professional activity
  • Participate and provide leadership in the professional arts sector, particularly in relation to professional practice and research in Performing Arts
  • About You

    You will have active artistic practice, engagement and/or ongoing research in one (or more) of the following areas, voice studies, movement studies, acting for stage and screen, writing for performance, directing and dramaturgy, theatre making. You will be experienced and able to design and deliver quality curricula for contemporary arts practice in theatre.

    Ideally, you will further have:

  • Demonstrated capacity to design and deliver curricula for contemporary arts practice in theatre with experience in at least one of the following: voice studies, movement studies, acting for stage and screen, writing for performance, directing and dramaturgy, theatre making
  • Evidence of ability and willingness to contribute to the engagement activities of Theatre, such as effective liaison with external networks to foster collaborative partnerships
  • Strong interpersonal skills, recognising and respecting diversity and personal differences
