About the Role The School of Languages and Linguistics seeks to appoint a fixed term Teaching Associate - Periodic Tutor for 2023 with the capacity to teach in the area of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. The successful applicant will be a committed and engaging educator.

In this position, your primary responsibility will be to deliver your assigned tutorials within Linguistics and Applied Linguistics' tutorial program, and you will report to the Discipline Chair (Prof Rachel Nordlinger). The Faculty's tutorial programs provide opportunities for students to practice their skills of analysis, argument and critique, and to enhance their communication skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver tutorials in subjects across the LAL program such as LING30003 First Language Acquisition, LING30007 Semantics, LING20003 Second Language Learning and Teaching and LING20006 Syntax (or others subject to negotiation)
  • Conduct tutorials to a high standard using the provided tutorial guidelines and relevant content available on LMS
  • Undertake consultation with students in relation to readings, weekly topics, assessment, and skills development (consultation could be contemporaneous as part of the derived teaching rate or additional as directed by the Subject Coordinator)
  • About You You will have excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work independently and as a member of a team and maintain good working relationships and professionalism with all levels of the organization. You will have demonstrated experience of teaching diverse groups of students in a range of delivery modes.

    You will also have:

  • Completion of or progress towards a Doctoral or Master's qualification in linguistics or equivalent relevant academic or professional or practice- based experience and expertise
  • Ability to interpret and understand policies and procedures relevant to teaching and student support and welfare
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage one's own time effectively, administer multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines successfully
  • To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check.
