The Upward Bound Program is an early intervention pre-college preparatory program funded by the US Department of Education and is sponsored locally by North Carolina State University. Upward Bound seeks to identify and select high school students with a 2.5 GPA or higher who have academic potential to succeed in college.
The Upward Bound Program is seeking the following Summer Instructors:
-Two (2) English Instructors to instruct courses for rising 11th or 12 graders. Instructors will utilize the book Between the World and Me by Te- Nehisi Coates and focus the class on preparing students for success at the 11th and 12th grade levels.
-One (1) Math Instructor to instruct in courses Math 3 and AFM.
-One (1) Science Instructor to instruct in laboratory science courses including, but not limited to, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Physics, etc. Other previous courses have included Forensic Science and Genetics.
-One (1) Spanish Instructor to instruct two Spanish courses.
-One (1) Jr. Symposium Instructor to lead a course for rising seniors including topics such as learning about different colleges (four-year, HBCUs, majority institutions), majors, the college application process, ACT/SAT test strategies, etc.
Instructors will: - Instruct high school students in conjunction with state standards - Prepare lesson plan format for each class session - Submit time sheets, class rolls, student evaluations and lesson plan format at the end of the Academic session - Report to and collaborate with the Academic Coordinator and Assistant Director - Maintain a safe environment for all students - Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits including meeting required deadlines, attending staff meetings as scheduled, and implementing instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. - Other duties as assigned that aid in the overall service delivery model for the Upward Bound Program - This position will require in person interactions with 60-70 high school students on NC State's campus
