    Position description

    The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, invites applications for a full-time faculty position to serve as an Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine. The academic appointment may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Both HS and Clinical X faculty provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Clinical X faculty are expected to conduct more substantial research.

    Candidates must have an MD or DO degree, be eligible for a California medical license, and have board certification/eligibility in Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine. Applicants must have practice experience in therapeutic apheresis/cellular therapy collections. In addition, individuals with experience in coagulation/hemostasis are encouraged to apply.

    The successful applicant will have a track record of working cooperatively and collegially within an academic and clinical environment and will contribute to the teaching, clinical service, and research missions of the department. Responsibilities include effective management of administrative functions of an active Transfusion Medicine Service, including shared medical oversight of the Blood Bank, Blood Donor Center, and Therapeutic Apheresis. This position will serve the medical, surgical, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy needs of: the 400+-bed state-of-the-art tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital; multiple specialty services including the NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center; Regional Burn Center; the only Level I trauma center in Orange County; and, a new hospital complex on the Irvine-Newport Beach campus that is under construction and scheduled to begin operations in 2023.
