Position Title: Trades Specialist 2, HVAC (Multiple Opportunities)
Department: Facilities Operations – West Campus
Starting Rate:Band 3 - $20.24 - $25.29

Position Summary:
The Trades Specialist 2, HVAC performs heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning (HVAC) maintenance, repair, and replacement. Troubleshoots the
Energy Management Control System (EMCS) for operational needs. Schedules,
performs, and reports on a wide variety of central plants and unitary HVAC
systems. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to address needs
of the various campuses to optimize equipment relating to the central plant
and multiple units of the HVAC system.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working
evenings and weekends and on-call rotation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Schedules, performs, and reports central plant and unitary HVAC work
duties. Coordinates with other staff, vendors, and inspectors to meet the
operational needs of the various campuses.
Performs preventative maintenance of all central plant equipment including
chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers valves, and electric actuators.
Monitors, adjusts, and repairs a wide array of energy management controls
systems including informational technology remote monitoring systems.
Services and maintains all air handler and air filtration systems. Adjusts
belt tension and alignment and regularly changes filters to maintain clean
coils and air delivery to the space intended. Inspects and lubricates
bearings, valves, and actuators that control chilled and hot water
delivery through the interconnecting pipe.
Monitors, troubleshoots, and maintains Energy Management Control Systems
(EMCS).
Coordinates, conducts, and assists outside vendor work and equipment
inspectors to assure adherence to scheduling, safety, and performance
guidelines.
Provides first line onsite support for HVAC when campus needs arise and
supports the roving HVAC crew.
Maintains and adjusts facilities maintenance and repair operating
scheduling and tracking system.
Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by
the supervisor
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or GED and
Vocational or technical training in HVAC maintenance and
One to three years of related journey level trade experience and
MVD check and Valid Arizona Driver's License and
EPA Universal Certification
or
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to
successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed
above
Preferred:
Three to five years of related journey level trade experience
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and
abilities:
Knowledge of skilled trades expertise required to complete assigned
responsibilities for the position
Journey-level central plant and commercial direct expansion equipment
maintenance and repair
Basic repair and maintenance of a variety of commercial facility systems,
including basic
mechanical/electrical systems and basic construction
Use of computers and applicable software applications
Basic inventory and record keeping
Read blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings
Principles of estimating job materials and work hours
Leadership, managerial and supervisory principles
Skill in effective communication (both written and oral)
Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to
another of a different nature
Skill in HVAC maintenance
Ability to adapt and maintain professional composure in emergent and
crisis situations
Ability to operate relevant equipment required to complete assigned
responsibilities for the position
Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and practices
Knowledge and application of organizational and time management principles
Attention to detail, comfortable with working on repetitive tasks with a
high level of accuracy
Skill in positive, productive, and flexible customer service
