  • Duties

  • Maintain all aspects of the tool room for the Heavy Mechanical Trades Programs.
  • Maintain and issue tools and equipment, inspect shop equipment for safe operation and receive supplies.
  • Repair and/or arrange for repair of tools, equipment and diagnostic equipment.
  • Under the direction of the instructor, supervise repairs performed by students.
  • Liaise with instructors and customers to schedule trucks and equipment for repairs, and monitor repair process.
  • Determine requirements, ensure availability of parts and meet with suppliers and manufacturers' representatives.
  • Maintain and develop systems to account for tools and equipment.
  • Maintain shop data computer and associated software.
  • Maintain material safety data sheets. Monitor budgets and submit daily revenues.
  • Implement and maintain proper safety standards by demonstrating and ensuring students follow safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Operate forklift on occasion.
  • Qualifications

  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician and/or Truck and Transport Mechanic Interprovincial Certification.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards including WCB Regulations.
  • Minimum seven years of varied industrial experience.
  • Experience in maintaining tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Familiarity with service manuals and computer-based service information systems.
  • Some bookkeeping and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to successfully resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Forklift certification (or obtain with 30 days).
  • Valid BC Driver's License with an Air Brake Endorsement and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work in and maintain a Heavy Mechanical Trades tool room.
  • Supervisory skills, conflict resolution and budget management courses.
