    Position Information

    Position Title Title IX Investigator

    The Office of General Counsel and the Title IX Office are seeking applicants for the position of Title IX Investigator. These offices are responsible for assuring that all applicants, employees, and students at the University are protected from discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in compliance with federal, state, and University mandates. The Title IX Investigator is essential to fulfilling this obligation, serving the University's main and remote campuses, working on Title IX and other related committees, and most importantly performing thorough investigations. Essential Job Functions:

    • Conduct and/or supervise all professional investigations in response to complaints of illegal discrimination and harassment involving Marshall Employees, students and applicants following established procedures for conducting a comprehensive investigation.

    • Receive, evaluate and respond to inquiries and requests for information related to all forms of illegal harassment and discrimination in the Marshall system as defined under GA-1; including answering requests for routine consultation, information, referrals, and counseling.

    • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with relevant Marshall Offices, including, the Department of Public Safety, Human Resource Services, and the Office of the General Counsel.

    • Assists with training relevant to the work of the Office of General Counsel and Title IX Office with special emphasis on compliance activities.

    • Manage multiple projects/cases concurrently, utilizing effective time management to meet established timelines.

    • Assist in other duties relevant to the work of the Office of General Counsel and Title IX Office as assigned.

    • Travel between campuses and across the state as required.

    • The Title IX Investigator will be expected to act with integrity and take the necessary steps to protect the privacy of all parties.

    • Must be able to independently manage the daily responsibilities associated with investigating reported incidents, maintain accurate and thorough records, and ensure records are maintained according to the retention policy.

    • Responsible for drafting investigative reports that clearly identify the critical facts found by the investigator, and the Investigator's findings as to whether the respondent more likely than not (preponderance of evidence standard) violated Marshall University's Sexual Misconduct Policy.( GA-1)

    • Investigations may include identifying and interviewing witnesses; gathering and securing relevant documentation; and identifying other information that would be helpful in bringing the matter to a resolution.

    Required Qualifications

    Education

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, legal studies, forensic psychology or related field.
  • Experience

  • Two year's experience with conducting professional investigations and writing final investigative reports.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Education

  • JD or Master's degree in a related field of study with demonstrated evidence/fact gathering and investigational interviewing.
  • Title IX investigator certification
  • FETI training
  • Experience

  • Five plus years experience with conducting professional investigations specifically related to matters of Title IX with preference in a University setting.
  • Experience dealing with complaints and grievance processes.
  • Experience in student conduct and working with college students.
  • Experience working in the Title IX Office, Legal Office, Law enforcement, and or Human Resources is preferred.
