The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) with its 1,100 employees has gained an excellent reputation as an international competence centre for environmental sciences. We are part of the largest scientific organisation in Germany, the Helmholtz association. Our mission: Our research seeks to find a balance between social development and the long-term protection of our natural resources.
The jobProject: Ecosystems are exposed to multiple chemical and non-chemical stressors such as pesticide mixtures, ecological competition, and environmental stress. In contrast, exposed organisms may adapt to some stressors. However, these stressors generally interact in ways that are not well understood and may contribute to unexpectedly high sensitivity of field populations. These complex ecological relationships will be quantified in laboratory systems supporting a detailed analysis of population dynamics under multiple stressors. For this purpose, lab experiments will be conducted using model test organisms. The experiments will focus on how multiple stressors shape the response of populations. The resulting knowledge can then be used for an appropriate risk assessment of pesticides.
Your tasksYou will be responsible for planning, conducting, and evaluating the relevant experiments together with us. The elucidation of the relevant ecological processes will feed into the Federal Environment Agency's risk assessment.
