Here in the UHS Theatre Complex we are offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, passionate, visionary and motivated individual to join our team within Trauma and Orthopaedic theatres at University Hospital Southampton.

University hospital Southampton NHS foundation Trust (UHS) is one of the leading major trauma centres in the country. Our unit includes eight theatres dedicated to Trauma and Orthopaedics providing both elective and emergency surgery. The team specialises in complex trauma, elective hip, knee, spine, shoulder, hand and foot/ankle surgery for adults and children.

We host the regional spinal surgery service along with our neuro spine services. We are a leading research centre in the south with innovative and stimulating environment. Some of our pioneering works have been featured in news articles and on national television. UHS is one of the UK biggest teaching hospitals, performing over 34000 operations per year across 33 operating theatres.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Your Responsibilities What you'll do

The successful post holder will:

  • provide skilled specialist assistance in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care throughout the Operating Department.
  • participate as an integral member of the theatre Scrub team, covering a full range of shifts, including earlies, lates, nights and weekends.
  • act as the patient advocate and maintain high standards of patient care, in line with NMC or HCPC code of conduct.
  • Be involved in supporting and mentoring students and new staff as appropriate.
  • What we're looking for

    We are looking for qualified theatre practitioners for Trauma and Orthopaedic theatres.

    If you possess good communication skills, are patient focused, friendly and a team player we want to hear from you. In order to assist you to develop your career, you will be mentored and supported during your employment. You will rotate through the surgical specialties to gain a wide practical and theoretical knowledge base.

    We are also offering opportunities for clinical and leadership development, through developing a career development pathway exploring opportunities for specific clinical development in conjunction with access to leadership pathways. We are keen to offer a range of opportunities, to include dual skill development. Your home base skill could be added to through a secondment into another theatre discipline. We would be opened to discuss career pathways tailored to your individual career focus.
