Job Title TexPREP Teacher (Temporary)

Position Summary

The TexPREP Summer Program Assistant provides group supervision of participants during the academic courses, lunch period, field trips and other program activities to ensure safety and appropriate behavior during the Six- week TexPREP Summer program at Texas Wesleyan University. Summer Program Assistant also provides tutoring assistance in related subjects; assists assigned Teacher/Staff with relevant duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision of assigned project participants during the academic courses, lunch period, field trips, and other program activities throughout the summer component Daily 100%

Provide tutorial services to assigned project participants. Daily 100%

Ensure the safety and appropriate behavior of project participants. Daily 50%

Complete and submit contact reports documenting services provided to assigned participants Weekly 5%

Assists designated Teacher/Staff with class preparation, grading, and other duties as assigned. Weekly 5%

Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Director. Weekly 5%

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

Minimum classification of high school freshman; past TexPREP preferred.

Experience

Must be interested or majoring in a STEM field or related subject; Experience working with and supervising at-risk youth; Ability to coordinate and execute youth-oriented and age-appropriate activities; Ability to document contacts and attendance

  • Ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, and other constituents of the University.
  • Ability to use discretion in handling confidential matters.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and office atmosphere.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to display sensitivity to the educational and psychological issues affecting low-income, potential first-generation college-bound youth and indicate either professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population from which TRIO participants are selected.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and productively in a highly active setting.
  • Ability to adhere to University & departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate and provide quality customer service.
  • Skills and abilities (position requirements at entry):

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to Senior Staff, public groups, managers and employees.
