Description

Tenure track W1 Professorship (W1 to W3) “Multifactorial data analysis and

machine learning in the life sciences” (f/m/d)

The Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University invites applications for a

Tenure track W1 Professorship (W1 to W3) “Multifactorial data analysis and machine learning in the life sciences” (f/m/d)

at the Centre for Organismal Studies Heidelberg (COS) to be occupied at the earliest possible time point. The professorship will be co-affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR).

The successful candidate (f/m/d) will support and expand research activities of COS in the area of analysis of large and complex sets of experimental data in the life sciences. Particular focus should be on gene-environment interactions, interdependencies on different biological scales such as time and space during development or effects of targeted genetic modulation of biological systems. It is expected that the professorship will contribute to a strong link between experimental life sciences and theoretical bases of data analysis and machine learning. Furthermore, the successful candidate will participate in initiatives aimed at creating new collaborative networks and / or integrate into existing research consortia. The professorship will contribute to teaching in the biosciences within the study programmes Bachelor “Biowissenschaften”, Bachelor ”Biologie (Lehramt)” and Master of Molecular Biosciences.

COS is a vibrant research centre dedicated to elucidating the development, physiology and evolution of plants and animals using molecular biology, cell biology and genetics. COS comprises 22 independent research groups and offers excellent conditions for research and teaching in an international environment. Our work is supported by the CellNetworks Core Technology Platform (Deep Sequencing, Nikon Imaging Center, electron microscopy and Metabolomics). A detailed description of the research and teaching activities of COS is available on the COS webpage www. cos.uni-heidelberg.de/en.

The tenure track professorship (W1) will initially be limited to six years and, following a positive tenure evaluation, will be converted to a permanent W3 full professorship. The evaluation statute is available on www. uni- heidelberg.de/university/staff/career/tenure-track/index.html

In accordance with Article 51 (Higher Education Act of the state Baden- Württemberg), the appointment to a tenure track professorship requires a completed degree, an excellent doctorate and pedagogical aptitude, which has generally been proven through teaching experience. If you spent time employed as a research assistant (before or after your doctorate), this employment and the period of your doctoral studies combined should not exceed six years. The appointment to a full professorship additionally requires either a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or equivalent qualifications (Article 47, Higher Education Act).

Please submit your application including the application form, CV, publication and third-party funding lists, teaching experience, previous research activities, future research projects and references with contact details in a single PDF to the Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Hell, Im Neuenheimer Feld 234, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany, direktor@cos.uni-heidelberg.de, no later than August 12, 2022.

Heidelberg University stands for equal opportunities and diversity. Qualified female candidates are especially invited to apply.
