  • The Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University Linz invites applications for a tenure-track position "Cell and Molecular Research in Ophthalmology" at the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry for applicants holding a Doctorate/Ph.D. and in accordance with the collective agreement for university employees.

    The successful candidate will be expected to contribute and strengthen the JKU's research activities in the field of ophthalmology and retinal prosthetics, as well as cell and molecular biology and stem cell biology.

    The successful candidate should possess corresponding expertise and experience in both ophthalmic and neurodegenerative diseases, and stem cell reprogramming and differentiation, particularly in the area of organic retinal prostheses and in generating 3D retinal organoid models.

    Those applying for the tenure-track position at the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry (the Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University Linz) must hold a doctorate/Ph.D. degree in accordance with the collective agreement for university employees and the Austrian Universities Act for full-time employment (40 hours per week) at a set period of six years.

    The position is aimed at highly qualified junior researchers who hold a doctorate/Ph.D. in medical sciences or natural sciences (biology, chemistry, or the like) and provides an option to conclude a qualification agreement and – to this end and after a positive decision is rendered - a permanent position as Associate Professor (§ 99 Sec 5 and 6 of the Austrian Universities Act).

    The successful candidate should demonstrate a track record of post-doctoral academic/scientific research, outstanding publications, teaching experience, and having successfully acquired external funding, whereby completion of doctoral/PhD studies should be no more than a maximum of 10 years prior (career interruptions due to parental leave, military service, etc. will be deducted).     The minimum salary in accordance to the collective agreement is EUR 56,861.00 gross per year. A higher salary amount will be subject to negotiation. After concluding the qualification agreement, the minimum salary under the collective agreement will be raised to EUR

    66,952.20 per year.
