    Position description

The Université de Lorraine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience

The position is open under a new Junior Research Chair governmental program:

    https: // www. enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/fr/des-carrieres-plus-attr...

The position is a tenure-track of 5 years, leading to a Professor position (after internal evaluation). The position focuses on research, with minimal teaching duties for 5 years (64h/year), and an attractive startup research package (including two PhD fellowships, laboratory space and equipment). Starting salary depending on experience.

The ideal candidate will conduct innovative research on the human brain to study the neural mechanisms of behaviour, with multidisciplinary and translational approaches.

This position builds on existing local strengths in research on (visual) recognition/categorization (faces, objects, letters/words) and will complement or strengthen these existing domains. A research program on neural plasticity and mechanisms of memory encoding, consolidation and retrieval in medial temporal lobe structures, including their pathology in Epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease, is particularly welcome. Experience or interest in frequency-tagged neural activity and computational skills for data analysis of multimodal neural signals are an asset.

The successful candidate will become a full member of the Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience group of the CRAN (UMR7039) and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities at Université de Lorraine and CHRU-Nancy. The candidate will have access to healthy and neurological populations (with neuropsychological evaluation), intracerebral recordings (including multi- and single units) and stimulation in epileptic patients, high-density EEG, tDCS, fMRI (3T Siemens, at IADI-CIC-IT), including simultaneous EEG/iEEG and EEG/fMRI.

    Qualifications and assets

Candidates must have completed their PhD in Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Computational Science or related fields. The main criteria for selection are research excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Cognitive Science and Neuroscience. While a working knowledge of French is an asset, it is not required for the position.

    How to apply:

Complete applications will include: (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) research statement, (4) contact information for two referees.

The cover letter should describe the candidate's qualifications, notable accomplishments, and career trajectory (including any interruptions).

The curriculum vitae should outline the candidate's education/work history, awards/scholarships, research funding, publications/presentations, and courses taught. The research statement (two pages, single-spaced) should describe the candidate's research program, and the three most important research contributions to date.

The teaching statement (one page, single-spaced) should describe the candidate's teaching philosophy and the courses (cognitive science, neuroscience, computational science) the candidate is interested in teaching. Documents showcasing teaching effectiveness (e.g., course evaluations) may be appended.
