The Italian Department at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (New
Brunswick), is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor focusing on Race,
Diaspora, Transnational Italian Literature and/or Cinema, with possible
specializations in Mediterranean Studies, Black Europe, European Cinema, and
Critical Theory, to begin September 1, 2022.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research
agenda, teach two courses per semester on Black Europe and/or the Global South
at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the academic life
of the department by advising undergraduate and graduate students, and serving
on department as well as university-wide committees. The new hire will be part
of a cluster in language and racial justice; they will substantially enhance
the curricula of different humanities programs, while strengthening the
already existing synergies among various departments. They would contribute to
the initiatives of the Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice.
Applicants with an interest/specialization in the intersections with
Comparative Literature, Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies are encouraged to
apply. Other areas of research and teaching interest are literary and
cinematographic representation and self-representation of migrants, post- and
de-colonial theory, and the study of literatures and cultures from a
transnational perspective. Focus might also involve refugees' political
activism in relation to diaspora and the migration crisis.
This position is part of a Humanities cluster hire in Language and Racial
Justice and will be part of campus-wide interdisciplinary initiatives,
including the Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice, the Rutgers
English Language Institute, the Language Engagement Project, the Language
Center, and the Critical Translation Studies Initiative.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requirements include Ph.D. in Italian, Comparative Literature, Cinema Studies,
or related field by September 1, 2022, and fluency in Italian and English.
