Other Work/Responsibilities

Assist the Principal Investigator (PI), graduate students, post-docs, and technicians in somatic embryogenesis initiation, maintenance, and transformation. The technician will also be cloning genes into plant transformation systems. Work may involve driving to field locations to assist with assessing trials, clone banks, and seed orchards. They will participate in regular lab meetings and check-in meetings with PI to update progress.

Minimum Experience/Education

Completed BS in Biochemistry and Environmental Sciences. At least 1 year of experience in a molecular biology lab performing tissue culture and media preparation.

Department Required Skills

Experience working with conifer tissue culture is required, including: Initiation of somatic embryos by dissecting immature conifer seeds, maintaining initiated cultures, and transferring cultures to maturation media and taking cultures through the maturation protocol. Experience with tissue culture media preparation, excellent sterile technique and familiarity with autoclave usage is necessary. A molecular biology background involving PCR and molecular techniques is required as well as experience with conifer biology.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

At least 1 years of experience in lab-based research, knowledge of conifers and sterile tissue culture technique.
