At the crossroad of technological and fundamental developments we propose to explore new generation of Magnetic Random Access Memories (MRAM) by the use of recent developments of Transmission Electron Microscopy based on the connexion of devices inside the TEM chamber for exploration of its magnetic properties through Electron Holography as well at its nano-chemistry during their operation.

The PhD will work on the characterization side with a strong correlation with the nanofabrication aspects. Its work will consist in implementing the preparation of the devices produced Spintec for them to be observed AND connected at the same time within the TEM. The work will consist in the following missions (not exhaustive) :

Electrical characterization of the devices after production and after preparation

Nanofabrication (cleanroom) of dedicated chips to welcome the TEM samples

Sample preparation using Focused Ion Beam (FIB) to thin and contact the thin lamella containing the sample.

TEM operation through its various modes, main one being the Electron Holography to observe the magnetic fields at the nanoscale

Image treatment to enhance the low signal to noise of the observations

Offer Requirements Specific Requirements

The candidate should exhibit strong motivations and skills on instrumentation. A former experience in handling TEM, FIB or cleanroom techniques will be appreciated. He should also propose a good knowledge on Solid State physics (Master's degree), nanomagnetism and/or spintronics being of major interest.
