Job Title Technology - Student Assistant (GIS Lab)General Description
This is a student position responsible for assisting with installation and maintenance of computer equipment in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.
Class schedules will be considered when determining your work hours. Approximately 20 to 25 hours per week, but will not exceed 115 hours per month. Our office hours are M-F 8 am to 5 pm.
Job Duties
1. Provides technology assistance for faculty and staff within the department. 2. Installs software as needed. 3. Replaces common computer hardware components for faculty and staff, as needed. 4. Provides assistance in answering phone calls, routing incoming calls, taking messages, and greeting visitors. 5. Assists in file and records maintenance. 6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public (written and verbal). 2. Verifiable experience with all aspects of Microsoft operating systems including installing, configuring, repairing, and troubleshooting. 3. Ability to identify and replace common computer hardware components. Ability to and knowledgeable in software installation (Office, Java, Adobe Reader, etc.) 4. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Training and instruction will be provided. Some experience preferred.
An interest in quality computer support desired.
Preferred Qualifications
This position will be staffing the Forestry GIS Lab. Preference will be give to applicants who meet the following: Must be computer literate Self-motivated, Personable, Dependable, Reliable Must be able to communicate and work efficiently with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Will be responsible for other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Needs to be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Must have (or be able to obtain) a University Driving Permit.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES MUST MAINTAIN A 2.5 GPA.
