The Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences is a leader in
agricultural, food and veterinary science education and research in Australia.
The faculty comprises the Melbourne Veterinary School and the School of
Agriculture and Food. The faculty operates across three campuses: Parkville,
Werribee and Dookie.
About the Role
The Technician (Soils) will play a key role in the ARC Research Hub
Themes 3 and 4 across this multi-disciplinary, industry-university
partnership. Working closely with the project team this position will provide
technical research support in Themes 1 to 4 of the ARC Research Hub
In a typical week at work, you may:
Assist with, and conduct laboratory and glasshouse experimental work as
directed by the research teams to meet project milestones and reporting
Assist with fieldwork, working closely with the research teams.
Under limited supervision, liaise with postdoctoral, research higher
degree, Honours and Masters' student researchers to support them in
conducting laboratory incubation and glasshouse experiments.
You will have w ell-developed interpersonal and communication skills with
the ability to liaise professionally across all levels with internal and
external stakeholders, and with a diverse range of people.
Ideally, you will further have:
Completion of a diploma level qualification with relevant work-related
experience in a relevant discipline such as agriculture, soil science,
agronomy, crop science, environmental science, or an equivalent
combination of relevant experience and education training.
Demonstrated knowledge of soil science, with experience in processing soil
and plant samples in the laboratory.
Proven ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively and
effectively within a team to achieve goals and objectives.
