The Single Cell Analysis Core at the Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a research Technician B. The lab is fast growing, and equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing instruments.

The Single Cell Analysis Core provides single-cell RNA-sequencing services using the 10x Genomics Chromium platform and an internally developed plate- based scRNA-seq platform. We have extensive collaborations with investigators at Columbia University and across the country and abroad, including in personal medicine and cancer genomics. Members of the lab have ample opportunities to be involved in the development of novel techniques in library preparation and sequencing.

Candidates for this position must have experience working in a lab and the scientific knowledge to understand protocols. A background in biology, chemistry, or similar and experience handling RNA is desired. Experience handling live single cells or with single cell sequencing is a plus.

    The technician must:

    - Be familiar with enzymatic reactions and PCR. The incumbent will prepare 10x genomics libraries, including performing quality control, for sequencing. The incumbent will also prepare pools of libraries and load the sequencer(s).

    - Pilot and optimize experimental pipelines for new technologies.

    - Be able to accurately record and track data using Excel.

    - Have the technical proficiency in laboratory benchwork necessary for achieving precise and consistent results.

    - Be responsible for handling precious samples throughout the entirety of an experiment.

    - Be able to communicate with our users (Principal Investigators and researchers) in an impeccable professional manner.

    - Work with researchers to help them understand submission requirements and to ensure the samples meet QC standards.

    - Attend the laboratory needs: ordering, inventory management, equipment repair and maintenance, updating and maintaining research protocols, training updates, certifications.

    - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the field of next-generation single cell sequencing, in particular how this field supports the broader research of the Columbia scientific community.

    Minimum Qualifications

    - Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

    - Some experience in a research lab or a core facility is required.

    - Meticulous, attention to detail and focus on accuracy.

    - Well organized and good time management skills.

    - Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

    - Must be able to work independently in an orderly manner and in accordance with all safety regulations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Previous hands-on experience in single cell library prep and/or next generation sequencing of different platforms, especially Illumina, is preferred, but not required.

Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran

Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
