  • Position Summary

    The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician A to join our team in a full time position within the Division of Critical Care Medicine. Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing technical and scientific support to our Research team.

    Responsibilities

  • · Interacts with the principal investigators and laboratory members (students, postdoctoral fellows, and others) to help execute research projects and assist with day to day laboratory management.
  • · We have several lines of investigation both specific for our laboratories as well as collaboration at CUIMC to develop and assess antivirals, neutralizing antibodies and new engineered tissue models for SARS-CoV-2 (the agent of COVID-19). (Toward these goals the individual will perform laboratory procedures including cell culturing, standard biochemical measurements, enzymatic assays, native electrophoresis and fluorescent scanning.)

    · Uses new techniques to assist in research progress.

    · Performs statistical analysis of data; prepares and performs internal progress reports on experiments

    · Assists in orientation and training of new investigators, fellows, visiting trainees, and others as needed.

    · Perform administrative duties as needed, including but not limited to: ordering supplies and reagents for other lab members, performing inventory on basic laboratory materials, organizing

    freezers and other storage, reconciling purchase charges through central administration, submitting purchases orders when required.

    · May conduct computational studies and or manage research databases. May contribute to publications and research presentations.

    · Perform other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in biology, molecular mechanisms of human obesity. Plus one year of related experience, or the equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or microbiology with laboratory research experience (practical experience, not coursework) is preferred
